If you are being treated for type 2 diabetes, Mounjaro is the labelled product, and your prescriber's choice is a clinical one — but the self-pay economics are dramatically worse, and it is worth discussing.

Insurance coverage frequently differs between the two even though the molecule does not, because plans underwrite indications rather than molecules. A plan may cover Mounjaro for diabetes and exclude Zepbound for weight management.

What not to conclude
